It is amazing to find out that once Poles saved Europe by defeating Turks at Vienna, that the Polish Constitution of May 3rd was Europe’s first modern constitution, that Ignacy Lukasiewicz, Polish druggist, is noted for the first industrial use of oil in Europe, that Stanislaw Ulam, a Polish mathematician, was a father of H-bomb, or that Alfred Tarski, one of the greatest logicians of all time, known as 'the man who defined truth” was born in Warsaw.
Poland is not only famous for its remarkable and tumultuous past but for what it is today. Once in Poland you may admire the world’s tallest statue of Jesus, the largest castle in the world by surface area and the largest brick building in Europe (the Malbork Castle), or the largest folk museum in the world. You may also visit Poland’s charming mountains and Poland’s sea beaches with the best sand in the world. It is a good idea too to get a glimpse at the famous Masurian Lakeland, the only European finalist of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. Wherever you go, to the old Jewish quarters in Lublin, Zakopane resorts in the mountains, or Chopin’s birth place in Zelazowa Wola, you will be enthralled by kindness of the people and their hospitality.
At IPI PAN we are passionate about Poland’s historical sites and spectacular landscapes. Even if you do not intend to apply, but interested in, for instance, castles in Poland (castle Ksiaz is in the picture), please write to us and we would be glad to share our passion with you.
